Dudhakunda Pikey Peak trek

Dhudkunda is a name of lake, which is situated at Dhudkunda municipality 1 taksindu in solukhumbhu district. The altitude from sea level is 4593 meter high. The simple translation of dudkunda is a lake of milk or a milky lake. This name came from the local legendry, they said that, a person who used to graze yak/ nak the (Himalayan cows) found that one of his cows always goes to a special stone and drop her milk there, later he found a lake full of milk and then the place named Dhudkunda. This place is one of the very religious destinations for the local people, who belief that there was the existence of god shiva and guru renponchhe. There is a big religious day in Hindu calendar which is janai purnima, means day of full moon. In this day many Hindu and Buddhist people come and worship to their Gods.

These days Dhudkunda is also becoming a famous destination for trekking. The beautiful lake Dhudkunda and other mini lakes in the same way the surrounding of glaciers and big mountains like Mt. Numbur (6959m.) Mt. khatang(6853m.) Mt. karyolung(6511m) are the attractions for the tourists. Besides natural beauty, the cultural diversity, different flora and fauna and religious sites are also other wonderful things to explore. On the way, the beautiful local community of Sherpa, Tamang, and Magar can found. Their respect and hospitality towards the tourists is also very astonishing.

Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Phaplu ,(2413m.) 7 to 8 hours of drive by private vehicle,

Day 2: Trek starts from Phaplu, hike up to chiwang monastery, through the motor able road and hike uphill, enjoying the beautiful view of Mt. number and Mt. thamserku, if the weather is clear. After walking 3 to 4 hour we will be there at chiwang monastery. We can see the Buddhist rituals and livelihood of monks. (The altitude of chiwang is 2645 m.)

Day 3: chiwang to taksindu (2842m.) after the breakfast step towards taksindu. We can visit taksindu monastery another Buddhist site.

Day 4: taksindu to thimba(3925m.) 5 to 6 hour of walk this will be the first day of camping, stay at thimba jungle.

Day 5: Thimba to Sashurabeni(4037m.) 4 to 5 hours of walk through plants of different incenses.

Day 6: Sashurabeni to Dhudkunda( 4593m.) 4 to 5 hour of walking we can get to the final destination and enjoy the incredible view of Dhudkunda lake and surroundings.

Day 7: Dhudkundha to yak kharka( 3840) walk down to the same way up to sarurabeni and move towards yak kharka. 5 to 6 hour of walk.

Day 8: yak kharka to junbesi (2675m.). After 4 hour of descending we will reach at Thuptenchooling monastery(3250m.) This is one of the famous and significant monastery of this area. After visiting this place descend towards junbesi.

Day 9: one day rest at junbesi. Explore local culture and different monasteries.

Day 10: Junbesi to jasmane bhanjyang(3539). 6 to 7 hours of walking through thick forest of rhododendron and pines.

Day 11: Jasmanebhanjyang to Pikey peak Base camp {3640m} 5/6 hour of walk.

Day 12 : Pikey Peak base camp to Jhapre {2820m} early in the morning climb up to  Pikey Peak(4065m) which is one of the best place to observe the Himalayan ranges including Mt. Everest, Temserku, Khangtega, kanchenjunga, number, khatang, karyolung, mera peak, salpa bhanjyang, ramdung peak, manaslu, dhaulagiri, ghauri Shankar, dorje lhakpa etc, total 6/7 hour of walk.

Day 13 : Jhapre to Dhap {2932}  4/ 5 hour of walk.

Day 14 : Dhap to Kathmandu 7,8 hour drive by private vehicle.

Day 15 : Kathmandu sightseeing around world heritage site.
